The Computer Studies Machinima Orientation Videos, are Machinima short films made with The Sims 2, 3 & 4.

They were initially conceived in 2008 when I was asked to produce an orientation video for incoming freshmen in College. Due to popular appeal with the first video, I continued to produce a short per year until graduation.

CS Orientation Episode 1 (2008)

Entering college was exciting for me since I was ready and pumped to produce animated features and comedy shorts for my 4 year stay in the University. As a Freshmen I volunteered to produce the Orientation Video guided by my senior school mates. The production challenged me in terms of writing for an audience I was not sure would be receptive to my humor at the time as well as recording and animating the scenes in a short amount of time. The production coincided with Obamas campaign around the United States so I incorporated a Yes We Can theme to one of the skits. The result of the projectwas successful as the Division was introduced to a new form of storytelling and animation.

CS Orientation Episode 2 (2009)

After my first year I was surprised to receive a request to produce another one for the new school year. The request came to me 2 weeks before the Orientation date! So given the 2 weeks I salvaged old jokes, animations and reused them for this episode. This is not my proudest episode but an episode that taught me. That animation and storytelling must not be rushed, otherwise you will end up destroying your product.

At the end of the video I threw in some visuals to  impress the viewers because of the failed and re hashed storytelling I did for this episode.

CS Orientation Episode 3 (2012)

Due to a weird mix up of Orientation dates for the year as an experiment by the Office of Student Affairs Orientation day was on a January, this was during my final 4th year of college. As learned from my previous experience I declined to produce an episode in my third year as it was also a rushed request by the division.

This however was requested in August of 2011 for January of 2012, so I was prepared to research and study new jokes for this episode. This episode allowed my to wrap up the characters I created for this series and introduce a new character that would propel the storyline of the Orientation series given if they ask me to produce another one again.

The series was produced with new coloring and rendering techniques as well as a new storytelling humor for the series. The video was well received by the audience.

A CS Student Again Episode 4 (2014)

After graduating from college and hired for a teaching position at the University. I was asked to come up with a newer version of this series. As this would be a fresh reboot from the main characters I introduced in 2008 I opted to focus on a 8Bit to 16bit look and feel for this episode. While also transitioning to the common 3D look the audience is accustomed to.

The challenges for this episode were creating the sprites and animating then to create humor due to their limited capabilities and dimension. The episode was well received and I was asked to work on another episode for the next year.
