STORYTELLING THROUGH PROJECTION

THE BARGELLO NATIONAL MUSEUM, FLORENCE ITALY

The Bargello National Museum in Florence, Italy is an often overlooked institution that offers a nice contrast to the more known ones.

It has undergone many transformations – either due to destruction by fire, flood, or the conscious decisions to convert the building.
Each space has experienced a distinct evolution and had different functions through time.

 PLANNING & PREPARATION

In the months of January and February we Skyped with the team in Florence from Paris planning our itinerary to study and analyze the museums of the Musei Bargello group.

By the month of March we flew to Florence and collaborated with the Director of the Florence Museums Paola D’Agostino and the team of SACI

We started with the questions of how can we: Get, Keep and Engage with Audiences for the Bargello Museum

EXLORING FLORENCE

Arriving in Florence we immediately set out to research and study the history of the city and its relationship to the Bargello Museum.

We discovered several key points that would be ideal in the development of the narrative we will add to the Projection Experience.

DESIGNING THE NARRATIVE

Arriving back in Paris, we immediate set out to build the experience, constructing a laser cut of the Bargello museum in order to test the projection mapping calculation we made when visiting Florence.

We wrote the script alongside Curatorial Art Historians to keep the entire narrative consistent.

We recorded the narration in English, Italian, Spanish and Chinese in order to allow us to reach a wider audience. The project was pitched to the directors in the Les Arts Decoratif Conference Room and was well recieved by the curators and directors

PRESS RELEASE STATEMENT

The unique story of the Bargello is presented through a comprehensive narrative, captivating imagery, and a powerful musical score.

Beginning as residence of the chief magistrate, the thirteenth-century palazzo was converted to a prison under Medici rule, and then restored to become the first national museum after Italy was united and Florence designated as its capital. It houses a diverse collection of Renaissance sculpture and decorative arts, as well as Dante’s first portrait.

Their final product is designed to be projected onto the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Piazza di San Firenze, Italy.
